While studying at Fine Arts College, she indulged in different artist mediums such as fine art, photography, graphic design, film and textiles. Hillman very quickly became captivated when she was first taught photography, using an analogue camera and developing her work in a dark room. Hillman attended Kingston University, London and Grand Valley State University, Michigan and graduated with a BA Honours Degree in Photography, 2017. She is inspired by artists such as Miles Aldridge, Martin Parr, Wes Anderson, Stephen Shore, Todd Hido and William Eggleston.Hillman’s first solo exhibition, Blossom, was in January 2020 at The Royal Automobile Club, London. Inspired by conversations with her grandfather about 'looking up', Hillman began a photographic series in Ibiza to capture of the street views from her walks, capturing every detail of a building and pushing herself to look beyond what she was seeing.Hillman chose to photograph buildings to examine something mundane from her typical every day, and the subtle details that can be easily overlooked. From there her subjects took on their own personalities, with different characteristics, the way light influences them, the geometry and the relationship between colours. The series found a playful edge with a choice of bold, pop colours, as well as a sense of nostalgia. Hillman's aim was to transform the buildings and their details, through her perception, into a more conscious state and into art, to be appreciated. To show the viewer what it looks like for her, to look beyond, and in her work reflect elements of her own personality and creativity.
