This set features a variety of five bears, delicately crafted from Linden wood and finished with paint lacquer in Semenov, Russia. Bear matryoshka's are part of Company's ’Secrets of Russia’ -collection. A few years ago Aamu Song and Johan Olin set on a journey to explore Russian manufacturing secrets. The travels, which took them from Moscow to Urals, into Siberia and to the Caucasus, resulted in collaboration with tens of traditional manufacturers. After each factory visit and after learning each of the traditional manufacturing skills they designed a new line of products based on these traditions. They work as artists and designers whilst also and run their own shop Salakauppa in Helsinki. Aamu studied industrial design at Seoul National University before coming to Finland to do her Masters Degree in furniture design at the University of Art and Design Helsinki (today called Aalto University). Johan studied at the same university, first graphic design and later spatial design. The pair met during their time and university and started COMPANY in year 2000. While Aamu and Johan put their main focus in collaborations with extraordinary makers in their own SECRETS project, they have also collaborated on commissions with companies such asArtek, Droog Design, IDEE/MUJI, Kvadrat, Marimekko, Nikari and the Finnish Post.
