Georg Jensen New York Cutlery Set, 24 Piece
Georg Jensen New York Cutlery Set, 24 Piece

Prepare the table for wining and dining with this 24-piece brushed cutlery set. The cutlery was designed as a tribute to the World Exhibition in New York in 1963 and soon made history as a new departure in design. In 1966 the New York cutlery was awarded the ID prize, the highest accolade for Danish design, for its clear-cut lines where the form itself is the decoration. Koppel (1918-1981) was born into a Jewish family, and as many other Danish Jews, he fled to Sweden during WW2. Koppel returned to Denmark after the war and started his collaboration with Georg Jensen in 1946. This collaboration marked the beginning of Koppel's work with jewelry, silverware and cutlery. Koppel was one of the early pioneers for functionalism in design and his mission was to make every day products beautiful as well as practical. Koppel was educated as a sculptor from the Royal Danish Academy (of Art) and his excellent drawing skills allowed him to produce remarkable sketches of his designs that are works of art on their own. When Koppel died in 1981 he had created a line of unique designs whose integrity and appeal remain unchanged today. Care instructions Steel: Always wash and dry the cutlery shortly after use. Avoid leaving the cutlery unwashed or leaving it to soak for a longer period, as this may result in spotting. When using a dishwasher, rinse the cutlery before placing it in the machine. Avoid machine washing with iron products, as these may release rust which can damage the cutlery. Wipe the cutlery dry as soon as the dishwashing machine has finished.
