How they work: Many modern phones use capacative touch screens instead of pressure based resistive touch screens. The screen employs an extra layer that stores an electrical charge, and when a finger touches the screen, the phone can detect the area where the charge has changed. Since cloth and leather do not conduct electricity as well as skin, conventional gloves form a barrier against these screens. These gloves feature patches of special conductive material sewn into the fingertips and thumbs. These conduct the electrical charge from the screen, allowing the phone to register your input while keeping your digits wrapped up warm.
