Make no bones about it, this is our all-time favourite barbeque red. As bright and vibrant as the label suggests and we all know that al fresco loves a screwcap. Ciconia comes from the warm, dry Alentejo region - north of the Algarve for you holidaymakers - and is named after the white storks that frequent the skies above the vineyards. Regularly highlighted in the press for the sensational value for money it offers, Ciconia feels like Malbec from a little closer to home. But it's actually a blend of Touriga Nacional (a famous component of Port), Syrah and Aragonez (the local name for Tempranillo) matured in French oak. Twisting that orange screwcap off seems to unleash sunshine and an eruption of forest fruits, blackcurrants, hedgerow blackberries, black pepper, prunes, spices and vanilla. A crowd-pleaser for all seasons, from summer barbeques to wintry comfort food. The Relvas family have farmed for five generations. They love nothing more than good food, good wine and good company. And you can taste that experience and love in every wine they make.£1.6 per 100.00ml
